In the IRR and due to be out by June. Had about 3 calls 10 letters and one personal visit from the friendly retention division and human resources. I'm thinking orders might be coming soon to goto the sandbox due to the shortage of mechanics.

2 years ago I would have jumped at the chance. Now, got a 16 month old boy, and another 3 months from coming out. Started a business 3 years ago which is going great but being the sole licensed person in the office will have to completely shut down upon my leaving. My only employee of course would be outta work because I would have no means to pay him let alone keep my rather large business startup debt, house payment, delivery bills, etc. under control on a SPC wages. If this is typical situation for the Army today, then so be it send me, we'll make ends meet. If this sounds like a hardship can someone give me advice on what steps to take? Plan on calling the human resources SSG tommorow to get his take on the situation. The housecall SSG's advice was to reenlist in the NG with a unit that had already deployed. I figure I'd probably get detached to another unit and sent anyway and then stop lossed.

Thanks for any advice.

The IRR is the worst place to be right now, in my opinion. You have all the risks of mobilization, but none of the benefits of service. At least if you get mobilized with the Guard, you'll go with friends, not as a filler for a bunch of strangers. I recommend you get in the Guard for a year, and then decide later whether to stay in longer or not.

I agree with the major go national guard and research the units and be at least where you feel comfortable. Good luck on everything!

You might want to try the air national guard, their units usually deploy for no more than 45 days.
