I was just informed that the 09S enlistment option is closed for NPS. Is this true and how long ago did the window close? I was told the only way to go to OCS as NPS is to enlist first, complete AIT and then submit OCS packet.
Update: The most recent information about 09S/OCS I can find is SMOM 11006 (ARNG-GSS-11-006) which directly contradicts everything I was just told. I'm in Colorado, is there a state directive opposing this or what is going on? Am I missing something?

Sounds like what I was told by the first recruiter that I talked to - that O9S was off limits and that I had to enlist first, do some time, then submit a packet later on down the road. I know that every state runs it's Guard a little differently, but if I were a betting man I'd wager that you were fed a generous serving of horsepuckey.

How did your situation turn out? Was your recruiter right or were you able to enlist 09S? I know it could be a state by state thing but he said it was because of over-strength issues, which is in direct contradiction to the SMOM? Since OCS isn't gauranteed a branch, I don't see why it would matter state to state since I could be relocated, unless there aren't any State OCS slots left I guess. Is this just lack of good information and how do I get the real truth?

I found out from two OSMs that the recruiter was incorrect. I haven't enlisted yet, because other life circumstances have made it necessary to hit the pause button on joining; I still want the Guard, just not when the timing isn't right. Anyway, you can call 800-go-guard to find an OSM, unless someone here looks that up and tells you the contact info for one in your state. That's actually how I got a hold of one, but I can't remember who it was who helped me out, otherwise I'd tell you.
