Hey everyone. I enlisted on Monday but I attended RSP as a civilian this past Saturday. I'd just like to share my experience.
I arrived at around 0745.The first thing we did was hold a formation in the gym. Some privates got promoted and the NCOIC went over what we wee going to do.Next we rushed to the auditorium to hold a battle hand off ceremony. Soldiers who had just gotten back from BCT/AIT were handed off to their unit representatives and honor graduates were given coins. It was a pretty good ceremony and it made me think to myself "I'll be there some day"
Next we went back into the gym for weapons familiarization. We went over the parts of the m16a2 and its characteristics. We were also issued rubber m16 which we had to carry around for the rest of drill. We were taught weapon safety and how to properly carry an m16 around.
Then we got to actually disassemble and reassemble the m16s.It was pretty interesting to see how it all works. After practicing that a few times the sergeants set up a competition among recruits to see who could disassemble/reassemble the rifle the fastest.I got to participate although I didn't beat anyone's time lol. The winner did it in 2:08.
After all of this fun we marched off to wash our hands and then to chow.We ate fairly quickly and then we were put back into formation outside the readiness center. We marched over to the other side of the base to another building.About half of the recruits stayed there and the other half of us were marched to the PX to see what it's like.
The PX was pretty boring. They had all kinds of stuff but no one bought anything. We all ended up just sitting in a recreation room where they had a movie playing. After about half an hour we were marched back into the building we had just left
We went into a room where they had a training simulator set up.It was the coolest thing ever in my opinion. They had real m16/m4s and an m249 hooked up to air compressors and sensors and pointing towards a large screen. We got to shoot at virtual enemies that would come up on the screen. I got the opportunity to shoot the m249 and it was fun to see how to load/reload it and to feel a little kick. We rotated on and off the simulator with the other group of recruits for a few hours. After that it was back to the readiness center. We had another formation and practiced doing functions checks for a little while.
The last thing we did before I had to leave was play dodge ball which was fun and then we had a smoking session which ******!
All in all it was a great experience. It made me realize that I have to start PTing again and that I have to memorize the soldier's creed, general orders, and the Army song.
Hooah!
