I am 37, and back in 91' I enlisted in the Army Reserve, but due to what I later found out to be an injury during basic training was medically discharged I think in the second or third week of basic. I have been kicking around the idea of attempting to join the guard, but don't want to put a lot of effort into getting rejected. Part of my problem was the doctor that examined me in the reserve more or less said I was disqualified from entrance, its been about 15 yrs, I had the injury corrected (Torn ACL and sheered meniscus cartilage), spend 5 days a week weight training and doing cardio exercise. With this do I even stand a chance?

I believe the Guard's stance is:

1. Will the injury prevent you from performing your job?

2. Will the injury be exagerated by military service?

If you answer "yes" to either of these, then I would take a hard look at whether you can perform your duties as a soldier. Remember, people will be counting on you to save their life some day. I'm sure they would not want to hear, "Not right now, my leg hurts"... :-)

I hope this answers your question.
