Hi. I'm thinking about enlisting into the Guard but have a question about Basic. How much memorization is there? Not so much the follow these series of tasks to do a job, but the memorize this verbatim type memory tasks?

I have an extremely difficult time memorizing anything, so I am naturally very concerned about this. I am however, a college graduate, so its not like I'm not so bright. I averaged a 3.5 gpa in high school and a 3.4 through college.

That said, I really do have an extremely difficult time with memorizing lists, or stuff of that nature.

How big of an obstacle will this be if I decide to enlist? Could this potentially keep me from graduating? I don't want to waste anyones time.

Thanks,
Dennis

You'll be fine. Everything is hands on and it's repeated until you get it. There aren't many on paper tests, and if you did well in college, you will do fine with military education. Memorization will not be the biggest part of basic, don't sweat it

Yeah, I know it's Marine Corps pattern but it pretty much sums it all up.
