Last time:
Signed up as 29E (radio repair) with an Army Reserve Special Forces unit (so I had Airborne in my contract).
I arrived at Ft. Jackson for BCT Oct 1989. I was discharged after basic.
I hope to try again:
This time I'd love to do 68X, Mental Health Specialist (my degree is in psychology, I have psychiatric and related special ed work experience, and I'm graduate school bound for psychology or counseling in about a year). However, two problems- 1) I'm a teacher and it is too much time to be away from my classroom (without it ceasing to be my classroom), 2) there are no slots in the Guard in this area for 68X so I'd have to go Active or Reserves to do it (and even then, I don't know if there are any local Reserve slots for 68X and I hear it is hard to get for Active due to low numbers of slots and many people trying for them).
Alternatives:
-OCS, if I can get it with my prior entry level separation.
-68W, Medic. Not much better on time, but if I took a year off teaching I could do it and there is a definate need
-31B, MP. One of my interests even when I first signed up.
-If I get into good enough shape, I'd love to go 11B. No question the Guard needs them pretty much everywhere, and it may be the shortest training available so it would be the easiest to work something out for work (do it over summer break and I'd only miss a few weeks of work).

Chevez07, my cousin went to Sill about 5 years ago, I'm sure it hasn't changed much since then, but it's supposed to be pretty hard there. It's all male, so it will be significantly more difficult than Leonardwood or Jackson (I'm not being sexist, a number of soldiers and even my female recruiter said the same thing). Guess I'll see you there.
