My recruiter told me that there is an enlistment freeze starting today (15 SEP).

Any idea when it will be lifted?

varies state to state. best best is oct 1st to get back in touch with recruiter (unless they had already projected the freeze to be past that as well)

Texas.

My recruiter has been diligently working on getting me enlisted for the past 6 months. I was hoping to enlist before the end of the FY10 so I could get the 120 hours of Federal military leave to carry over for BCT. It doesn't look like that will happen now.

We can carry over 120 hours from one FY to the next, so come 1 OCT I would have had 240 hours to use in FY11.

More of an inconvenience than anything else. As soon as I'm cleared I will be enlisting.

I tried to enlist into state OCS, Even though I had over two years of college NY would not let me enlist because I have a GED? NY is having enlisting issues here too. So now I'm stuck in ROTC for two years with all the 18 year olds but I'm able to do SMP with a GED, I was told???

need 60 hours for Traditional state OCS / 90 hrs for accelerated state OCS(Thanks Cyall). Since you dont have one, but sounds like your have some college in your belt, it can be a blessing in disguise. g.e.d.+ 15 college credits is the last thing I remember being eligable to be in the guard. SMP program is money maker for you,so while you save up the cash, put up with being the oldest in the crowd, you'll be an officer soon, ZERO ZERO ZERO debt from school (wife has 90k in student loans, 415 a month ....yeah) and you'll be an officer. Only down side is the 2/3 years (whatever exact time) to complete. Doesn't seem TOO bad. whats the prob bob?

Negative on the degree for state OCS; it is still 60 hrs for traditional and 90 for accelerated. Benning now requires a degree to start. Once you have 30 semester hours of credit you can enter SMP assuming you meet the other requirements. Bart is correct about the money from SMP. It is a great program Anyway, there aren't that many 18 year olds in ROTC.

I thought it was the 60 to start 90 to comission for state OCS? I have 75 so I figured work out for a semester and get everything done and show up with 90 right? I was told NY doesnt want to hear GED by my recruiter? He told me GED+15 was not in NY at the time.

Thing that stinks is that I'm mentaly ready and I have been pushing hard for over a year to get to this point working out 2 hours a day, lost over 75 pounds, I walk in the office and he said no because a GED, which shocked me. I thought security clearance or no OCS slots, or something like that but GED was strange. It stinks I have to wait now but I heard SMP/ROTC is the high road? And I can do active duty I was told? I have no prior I'm going to LTC not basic so no GI bill. I attend state college anyway and my pell grant covers it . I want to do 3 years active so I'm not going to take the scholarship.

I'm trying to enlist for OCS as well. I guess this freeze would explain the abrupt silence from my OSM and recruiter.

Yeah my recruiter completely blew me off, he didn't show for my appointment and forgot about me. when I did meet up with him I left some personal information in his office and I called and emailed him for about a month and when I went to an ROTC oreintation this fall he was there, only then did he respond lol. Really made me upset because I been trying pretty hard to get this done.
I'm an economic/business major and I doubt very much I'll spend my career in my home state alone so I'm going SMP just for 11B with ROTC and then into active or the reserves so i can move around the country or bounce back from active to reserve. I just want a little infantry taste and training to see if it's me before I leave it behind for the reserves.

But I will say the conduct of my recruiter left a very poor taste in my mouth and if I do SMP with the guard it won't be with him.

Your recuiters office wasnt on Camp Smith in orangeburg, was he? I had one there that completely blew me off... i caught him in a lie, told him, and left it at that.

I plan on sending him an invitation to my commissioning ceremony.

Bingo!

I understand some people are busy, but a lot of good people have worn that uniform. The conduct in character should represent that.

Eh whatever just an annoying bump in the road. I think ROTC will be better for me but I would have loved to just drill one weekend a month. Not being a traditional student, who works and drives to school is really not easy for ROTC. I have to lose about 8-10 hours a week in driving and participation just for ROTC and about $300 in lost wages and cost of making to and from the program. I dont get to party all night driving dad's car worry free and living just for the army and college. I wish I could but I have obligations. It's a good thing, it's not going to get easier right?
