View Full Version : Branching...

As an MSIII getting closer and closer to LDAC I begin to think more and more about my future. I know I want to branch aviation and I know several units I'd like to join. I just got LASIK and am seeing 20/20. I'm currently in an aviation unit however I don't know if this is where I want to be living the rest of my life. As I've said before, I'm willing to relocate. My question(s):

1. Is it too early to begin looking for/contacting a unit to join?

2. I've heard contacting a state OSM for officer vacancies, would I contact a NY OSM to find a position in another state or do I contact that state's OSM?

3. Any other advice for a future 2LT?

Some notes about what I'm looking for... My dream guard job is an Apache/Longbow pilot. I'd be willing to relocate/travel a long distance to make this a possibility. I'm also quite interested in the OH-58(D) helicopters. Thirdly comes the UH-60 and in last place the Chinook. In all honesty I'd take anything I could get, but if given the choice that's my preferences.

Again, thanks for all your help people, it's much appreciated.

1. I recommend arranging a unit assignment now as an MSIII, particularly if you have a strong branch preference. You can't get Aviation unless you are qualified, so get a flight physical and AFAST first.
2. Contact the state OSM directly for vacancies in that state. 2LT Carris or MAJ Weaver in NY can put you in contact with another state's OSM.
3. I know Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Arizona have Apaches; I'm not sure what model, and I'm not sure what other states have them. I can tell you that if you're not too snobby to fly Blackhawks, and you are qualified, I have a flight slot for you in Virginia. Contact me offline, if you're interested.
