What are my BCT requirements? Push-ups, sit-ups, and 2 mile run (35+ female). I do a very slow jog of one mile in 12:30, have recently stopped smoking, and am going to start a workout program. Any suggestions? I ship to Fort Jackson at the end of January  .

read about fitness phases and some of the different activities and techniques.
also be cautious and take precautions according to your fitness levels...an injury is a setback.
here is a link to a unit that posted the fitness manual in pDF

I know where you are coming from. I am a 37 year old female preparing to enlist. I know for me I have been told its 3 pushups, 17 situps and a 10:30 mile.
Good luck. I am still trying to make tape.

Those are the requirements to get into basic, but to graduation basic, you must pass the APFT with at least 50 in each event. To graduation AIT, it's 60 in each event.

How can I build upper body strength to be able to do push-ups? This is my problem area. What is considered a correct push-up?

In the front lean and rest position the the back, hips, and knees must be in a strait position. Lower yourself to the ground and when your upper arms are parallel to the ground push back up until your elbows lock.

Fort jackson bound, Jan. 30th. I'm having a hard time understanding PT. If my 2-mile run time to graduate is something like 23:06, why is the 1-mile admission to BCT 10:30 for every female? I am confused. Aiming for 10:00 1-mile run to be safe! Any ideas why the difference?

to be clear for you can google this info if you want. However for women in that age bracket. your correct on the standards to get in, however they do go up when your in however, your drill sargeant will take it from there as for tape run run run run, and diet. The standards are 60 percent for women in your age group its about 20:00 two mile. (im serious) 55 sit ups. like 25 or so push ups.
