The attrition rate is about 50% -- half of the people who start never commission for one reason or another. The largest single reason? Lack of personal motivation. That is, people just give up. The second most common reason for failure is land navigation. You'll get one retest if you fail the first time, but most people need a great deal of practice on this skill.

OCS covers the precommissioning program of instruction (BOLC-1). There is some classroom, but the most significant training is in a field environment.
