How long is all the stages of bolc. I just got into the Rotc program at rutgers university in New Jersey and I am a third year student, currently in the advanced course. I heard that right after graduation you can choose to push off your date for bolc. Thats not the case with me, I want to graduate then attend bolc right away. How long is it, I heard that it is 6 straight months and what do rotc graduates learn over there.

There are 3 stages of BOLC. BOLC I is your ROTC training... when you graduate college you must complete BOLC II (https://www.infantry.army.mil/bolc/)which is 7 weeks in length. I know the Marines equivalent to BOLC II (The Basic School) is 25 weeks (or 6 months) in length. BOLC III (http://www.branchorientation.com/)is your OBC for whatever branch you get.

Hope that helps!

Do all ROTC graduates become active duty officers or can some branch ARNG by their own choice?

Yes, you can serve the Army National Guard (any state).

If you are on scholarship, speak to your ROTC cadre about converting your scholarship to an Army National Guard scholarship. This will lock you in to ARNG service after commissioning.
If you aren't on scholarship already, speak to your cadre about applying for an ARNG scholarship. If you move quickly, you may be able to get an award for the semester that has already started.
If you are not on scholarship and can't get one for whatever reason, speak to your cadre about obtaining a GRFD control number. This will ensure that you do not get put on active duty against your will.
Once you have a GRFD control number or an ARNG scholarship, then contact your state's Officer Strength Manager to get a unit assignment letter, which will reserve a platoon leader assignment for you (with branch, of course). You won't need to face the Cadet Command roulette wheel -- you'll know your branch before the accessions process even begins!
