I am a 40 yr old woman already took the asvab scored 97. When I saw the recruiter I said I might be interested in medic seeing as I am a cert. 1st responder. He told me there were no opening in the state then suggested a diff. mos - when I asked for info on that one he didn't have any so I looked it up on the web. When I suggested a diff. type of mos (mil. intel) he said there were no openings in the state. I feel as if he is trying to pigeon hole me
. I am into the martial arts so I am no shrinking violet but I don't seem to have any rapport with the recruiter. Is there some way to connect to someone else out of my area?
Also, when in basic do women get to bring their own sports bras? I am a 36d
and it has taken years to find one that seems to work for me.

You can call 1-800-GO-GUARD and they will connect you with a recruiter in your area. Tell them the name of the recruiter you already spoke with and they will find you someone else. It never hurts to get a second opinion. Have you considered looking into vaccant Medic positions in a neighboring state? As long as you're willing to commute, you can join the guard of any state. As far as the sport bra goes, I'm pretty sure you can bring your own. They don't make you use a military one or anything.

I ran into the same issue with the Army Reserve recruiter, was guaranteed the Radiology MOS and when I got to Meps and passed everything the story changed. That worked for the 18 yr old thier but not me, do not guarantee verbally and then change it when you think I am tired or excited about joining.

How would I go about getting the straight facts? I want to join as a 61P not 91W and get cross trained at the center. I am prior service as well.

Thanks and not to hijack this thread.

I appreciate the words but found out why my recruiter was trying to pigeon hole me. He was transfering out and just wanted another feather in his cap.
The new recruiter is working with me for what I want and what is best for the guard.
Also, hope you're right about the sports bra.

Kra-
I would also recommend to you to find another recruiter. Some recruiters are just lazy and others may try to get you in the guard at all costs (even if it means not getting you the job you want). If there is a vaccancy in your state for the MOS you want, don't settle for anything less. Tell your new recruiter what you've been through, and that you only want to go in under a specific MOS. let him/her know ahead of time, that if you get to MEPS (again) and they try to pressure you into picking another MOS, that you will not sign. Be firm and you will get results. This is your future we're talking about and its worth fighting for.
