First off, how is the MOS training done? i'm thinking combat engineer, Military police, or motor transport operation. im not sure about transportation or engineering, but i believe the MOS training for MP is 8 weeks (feel free to correct me if im wrong).

Now, is that 8 weeks spent in an army base in one shot, spread out, or do i train for that my one weekend a month and by 8 weeks they mean 8 weekends?

if i dont train for that my one weekend a month, what is the normal ruetine for that weekend?

next is the $20,000 signing bonus, a recruitment officer told me that i'd be payed half after i complete basic and half at the end of my service. what are the restrictions on this? My mom told me of someone from my area that joined and was told he would get the 20,000 but somehow he didnt recieve it, probably didnt read the fine print and was ineligible, but i still need to ask about it. it could have even been my mom trying to deter me from joining once i turn 18 because she doesnt like the idea.

finally, i will be going to college while im in the guards, and if i dont get deployed i plan to transfer to an out of state university to get my bachelors or masters. are there many requirements/restrictions to transfering to a unit in a different state?

I know MP is 17 weeks OSUT (One Station Unit Training) and is 17 weeks long (including basic and advanced training). I can check on the other MOS's if you want. Some MOS's are not OSUT, and that means you go to one place for basic training and another for advanced training.

BCT (Basic Combat Training) and AIT (Advancd Individual Training) are full-time. You would leave for BCT and finish 9 weeks later. Depending on your MOS, AIT is anywhere from 6 to 18 weeks. This is in addition to BCT, and is also full-time. Plan on at least 4 months of being away from home while in BCT and AIT.

The bonuses are paid 1/2 after AIT and other half spead out over 3 years, I believe. A lot of problems with bonuses and pay are as a result of incorrect bank account information. You are required to have a bank account for direct deposit, and then your money gets put directly into your bank. Its possible the person your Mom knows expected his/her bonus after BCT, but it comes after your fully trained.

Hope this helps...
