Im a split option soldier who completed basic training last summer. Ive been drilling for the past year I'll be shipping to 21B AIT in september. Are the hair regulations at AIT different than basic (for males)? I keep my hair fairly long for someone in the military but I'm always just within army regulations and it always looks proffesional.

There is Army Standard, and then there is the Basic/AIT Standard, which is typically shorter.

AIT hair is usually a little longer than Basic, but shorter than what you have been seeing around the armory.

So yes, you will probably need a haircut upon arrival.

Its only hair. It grows back.

For now....

That makes sense sir. I assume that combat arms schools allow less hair than other schools right? Does anybody have specific information on 21B school?

My guess is its going to be about the same anywhere for AIT regarding the hair. Starting out its going to have to be a very short buzz, same length all around. As time goes on, they will allow a VERY little bit more in length and then towards the end you can have very subtle fading type stuff... I dont know all those boy terms.

i'm at ft. gordon for AIT right now, i have been growing out the top since my last haircut at basic, the sides and back have to stay short though, i have to have it cut weekly (a fade) cause they dont like any of the little hairs on your neck.

and they do an in ranks inspection every sunday at recall formation.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a high fade or a high and tight then? :( if you grow it long enough are you at least allowed to use product?

How true that is sir. I cut mine off when I turned 21 and that was the end of that. Haven't been able to grow any since. Ugh! Genetics!! :(

A fellow officer who kept his head razor-shaved for his deployment came home to find it didn't exactly grow back the way he remembered it...

He also let his beard grow, only to discover some unexpected gray....D'OH!
