Supply and demand.
Recruitment is up, so we raise the bar and expect more of our applicants.

GEDs are getting excepted in some states, you will need to get at least a 50 AFQT on the asvab to get the exception. And remmber its an exception not guarenteed, also a recruiter that will work with you.

Well I think it will be easier just to get the college credits and It be considerd a high school diploma I don't know if I can score a 50 on the ASVAB.

AIM high and fall short, don't just take the easier path because it's convienant (can't spell) High school diploma is better then GED from a job perspective more times than not.

It's not too hard, get a study guide. I discovered an unknown talent, spatial rotation and putting shapes together, was actually my highest score. Don't know what it's good for but there you go.

Do you have your GED already? If not, see if the GED Plus is available, just ask your recruiter.

Well I have almost all of it but I have to retake the math portion Im horrible with math Im just saying they always tell you to get 15 college credits and that will be considerd a high school diploma so I think that's what I will try to do something like that I know of people who graduated high school and they couldn't even score 50's on the ASVAB so you know but they get in with lower scores cause they have high school diplomas well if I get a GED with college credits then I will too and won't have to worry about the GED requirments.

15 credits is just one semester and they don't tell you which ones you need to get I do not believe. SHould be easy enough, half my cousins credits are fitness classes like water polo and weight lifting.

Don't use the fact that you have a GED stop you from obtaining your goals. I have a GED, along with two degrees. If you want it bad enough you will study and earn it.

I'm comfortable stating that for many cases one can be much more confident in what a GED holder learned versus a HS grad. After working in HS for about nine years and knowing GED instructors I'm convinced.

Exactly that's pretty much my best option if im going to get in the guard.

I too have a GED and only 6 college credits. I understand the army's position on the GED policy NOT because of "quality soldiers" (Which slightly ticks me off to hear ppl refer to GED holders as less than) but simply because of supply and demand. Statistics show there are more GED holders willing to join the military than high school grads. So when the quota is met the only option is to slim down the pickings.
I dropped out of high school in 11th grade for personal reasons and I scored 1 point away from the highest asvab score my recruiter has ever put in; however, when I was fighting to get in I vented online about the policy and was criticized and told that I was to dumb for the army. They wanted "quality".. give me a break, so please choose words carefully. As stated, ALOT of high school grads that are enlisting cant even score a 50+, and if GED holders are required to, doesnt that make us superior?

It's been a few months and I still haven't heard any news from any recruiters I have previously contacted. My local recruiter is still awaiting a reply from his CoC if my 214 will be accepted along with my graduation paperwork, but most likely I'm going to be considered non-prior due to a missing graduation orders and missing MOSQ on my 214.
So are there any states currently accepting the GED? If so, can someone recommend a recruiter from such a state?
Someone did tell me to talk to a different recruiter in my home state, and "forget" to tell them I already have a GED. They said that I could ask about the GED Plus program and by saying the right things, I could get accepted. But I'm not the kind of person to lie or mislead a recruiter, especially with the risk of being discharged at a later time because of it.

Ninja, it is a bad idea to lie about your GED. They will indeed find your current one when you ship for GED Plus and you will be discharged with fraud (obviously its something you already know, just reiterating).
Im sorry to be the one to break the bad news buts it basically to late to join with JUST a GED this fiscal year. GED+15 college credits will work, otherwise your best bet is to just work on PT until late september. Last FY they opened the flood gate at the end of september and allowed GED applicants in until the new FY (which starts in October) had met its quota in January. So basically that is your window of opportunity

I have been trying to reenlist for a few years at least, and I went through this exact same BS last year. It looks like I'm going to start checking into other branches. If this is how the Army wants roll, fine with me. I'm done playing this game.

California is accepting, but the same rules apply. College credits needed.

There is also a waiting list for GEDs in California. Basically, a new recruit goes through MEPS ASVAB and physical but does not swear in. He/she is then placed on a waiting list and waits for a control number from ROC. The waiting list for just Southern California is about 40 deep. The quickest way is GED + 15 college credits.

I hear the marine corps needs people to fill sand bags and the navy needs seamen to chip paint and the airforce needs airmen to watch paint dry. Or you could join the coast guard if you're interested in the peace corps.

As a matter of fact, that's exactly the attitude that I no longer wish to be associated with. If the Army Guard wants their ranks to be filled with a bunch of up-tight stuck-up "my **** don't *****" soldiers, then be my guest. I'll work with another branch of service.
So yeah, I might be stuck joining the Air National Guard instead, but at least I'll be able to continue serving my country. This "new Army" is starting to look more and more like a bad decision. I am no longer seeing in the Army what I saw when I first joined.
To all those trying to get back in, good luck. I wish you the best and hope you have to deal with a minimum of BS. I think this ends my time here on these forums now.

I think the Michigan Militia has some forums you can check out. I'm pretty sure they are taking people with just GEDs right now.
