Just wanted to introduce myself. Been reading the forums for about two months and finally registered.

I served in the USMC and USMCR 1992-2000, infantry and engineers. Nothing special, just honorable if undistinguished service. After 9/11 and again after OIF started in 2003 I thought really hard about going back in on the reserve side, but some other things (mainly my .civ career) got in the way. I started to seriously reconsider it in early 2007, but my wife wouldn't have any of it. As much as I wanted to serve, she wouldn't go for it and, as hard as it was I knew it was the right decision to hold off. Finally we decided that once her career stabilized a little and our daughter got a little older, and once things got better she would be OK with it. We talked about it every few months, things started to come together, and finally around this past Christmas she gave me the green light. I think her exact words were "I'm not thrilled with it but if you still want to do it, you can."

My wife, who also served six years in the USAR, pointed me towards the AR and NG. I checked into the other branches, got my paperwork together (1A discharge, B.S. degree and halfway to a M.A.), then went to talk to the NG recruiter.

We tossed around a couple options, and I decided a one year contract as a 88M in a transportation company, which I am really happy with. Ironically my last position was as platoon sergeant of the headquarters platoon that included the Motor T section, but I never held a military driver's license.

It took me two trips to MEPS due to a slightly messed up back thanks to a tumble down a hill years ago, but I'm in. I'm headed to check into my unit later this week, and first drill is in April. I'm excited, and looking forward to it. I'm going to take this year one month at a time and see what's out there, including warrant officer and commissioning possibilities.

Now if I can just figure out 670-1.:D
