I have lost 67lbs and have 52 to go and a lot to get in shape so I have some time, but I have a lot of questions. Not sure how hard they are really!

How far back does the Army keep ASFAB records? I took it in 87 or so and nailed it. At the time there was no MOS not open to that score (96 or 98 I think, but as you can see it was forever) would hate to take it again!

I am very much looking into 96B or 97E both I believe require a security clearance. My concern is what happens if I sign up for one and then don’t get the clearance? Does the guard pick my new MOS, do I, am I allowed out or what?

As the above question implies I am worried about clearance. Long story sorry. I wrote two check in 96 or so that got returned (hot checks) for $4.95 and the other was $5.34. I got a letter from the prosecuting attorneys office saying pay this by X date (they act as a collection agency for a lack of a better term in our area) I got two letters looked at date on letter one and not on letter two. Went in to pay and did. Problem is check two needed to be paid the date before, got turned over to the prosecutor. Found out during warrant amnesty week, turned myself in and plead guilty. Paid the generic fine, picked up the check and was out the door. I have no clue what this is classified as and I have no clue how bad this is! I know No one can probably tell me yes you can get a clearance, but I am curious about HOW bad that is? Am I hosed or is it worth trying to get into a field that requires a clearance?

Anyone know how long 96B or 97E School is? Or where I can AIT school lengths? Or details about those schools?

How often if ever do 96Es and 97Es deploy with combat troops in the field?

What are the odds of getting language training with either 96B or 96E (assume it would be easier with 97E) is that even an option with the guard?

I took the DLAB at the same time I took the ASFAB back in 87 and missed the cut off by 4 or 5 points I think (I was trying to get for a linguist MOS back then). Has the cutoff for the language course changed or has the test changed? Assuming this will impact the above question.

Warrant Officer program I understand it and I have to be E5 to apply (I should enlist at E4) but I am curious how hard is it to get in the program from the Intelligence side of the army? Is this rare in the guard? And no I am not talking the aviation warrant officer program, but the technical one.

Based on all the above questions, especially the Warrant Office one are there any advantages to doing this in the reserves or the guard? (not sure I want to ask a recruiter that)

Is there a way to contact a guard recruiter without giving out my phone number? Would love to ask some of these questions and more but I would prefer to make contact by email. I am in Arkansas fyi and just turned 39..

Well, you just contacted a recruiter without giving your phone number out. You have a lot of questions that would best be answered by sitting down face-to-face with a recruiter, but I'll give it my best shot. You didn't say if you are prior-service, so I'll assume you are not.

ASVAB Scores are good for 2 years, so you'll definitely have to take those again. You'll also have to pass a physical, and if you still need to lose weight, the clock is ticking because you have to be able to leave for Basic Training before you turn 42. The cutoff for Warrant Officer Candidate School is 44.

MOS training for intel positions is usually around four to six months. As far as the security clearance goes, writing two bad checks, with small amounts that long ago, might not hurt you. The only way to know for sure is to have a recruiter run a police background check and see what turns up. 96Bs do deploy with troops to the field, as do nearly every other MOS.

The best thing for you to do is to continue to work on losing the weight, and go see a recruiter. They will better be able to guide you throught the process, answer and specific questions you may have and make sure you get it all done before your age becomes a factor.

Thanks a ton!

I have an email into the local recruiter that was generated based on my zip code from the guard site. The local unit is all from the 142nd Field Artillery and that is where the recruiter is based out of.

Do guard recruiters recruit for their units or for state wide needs? Also are 96B and 97E dispersed among other units or are they concentrated in just support units. I ask because there is a 239TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE CO about 2 hours away and I did not know if it was in my best interest to try and find a recruiter affiliated with that unit or just work with the local recruiter?
