I have been in the Army in some form or another for 4 years now(8X8). I started in the NG. Following AIT I had a bad year... that simple. It happens to some people in reserve components. I was "discharged" from the NG for non participation(stopped going to drill) and transferred to the IRR. My NGB-22 says "General:under honorable conditions" and I have an RE-3.
I was contacted by a career counselor and was easily convinced to join an AR unit in a TPU status(active drilling). I asked about the NGB-22 and how easy it was to get "back in"... He said I never really left the Army. I was just moved from the NG to the AR IRR.... no meps no nothing. All I had to do was find a unit and go to it. That's what I did. I went to a nice long school and picked up another MOS.
My DD214's from my active service(training) all say honorable discharge. The NGB-22 shows up in my IPERMS but that's about it. I have had no break in service and have 4 more years to go. So what does this silly NGB22 really mean? I am guessing I can never go back to the NG.. or could I? I dunno, just seems a little odd to me that I was discharged from one component for be a bad boy just to go to another component in good standing.
What do you make of this? Do I check "honorable discharge" on my job applications??? lol
I am much happier in my AR unit... nothing against the NG but my state was a joke... maybe I was a joke. I like my current unit much better.
