I have a 10% disability rating. Will I lose my monthly paycheck if I go in the guard?.

I am wondering the same thing. I am also 10% from prior service. I have heard different stories.

I was told by my VA rep that the only time we lose our VA comp. check is if we go AGR.
I am in the guard and still get my VA check.

Thanks for the info. Does AGR mean active full duty guard, its not being the same thing as if you are activated on a deployment is it?.

I have been drilling and drawing 20% disability for two years. Here is the catch. At the end of each fiscal year the VA is supposed to mail you a form to list the number of days you drilled. VA will then deduct your previous years "overpayment" from future payments. So in my case I didn't get my first form from them till my second year to cover my first year. The bottom line is that you can draw both, but VA will retroacticly deduct for those Days you drill. So you can get VA disability for 28 days a month, and drill pay for 2 a month. Never heard of the government "overpaying" and then letting you repay over time but that is the procedure.

I'll chime in and concur with the NCOS. I have been drawing a 10% rating for over 10 years.
Essentially, you can't be paid twice. The good news is, you get paid for an entire month by the VA, and only 4 days a month (typical weekend equals 4 UTAs) from the Guard.
At the end of the year, you reconcile your duty days with the VA. Last year I performed 130 days (Thank you Hurricanes Katrina and Rita), which roughly equals 4 months and some change. So this year, the VA did not send me a check for the first 4 months, then payments continued as usual.
Likewise, when I deployed a year, I lost VA payments the for the following year until my "debt" was reconciled.
That being said, WHAT JOB CAN I SIGN YOU UP FOR? :D

So I get 30% from the VA. I was under the impression that my disability just got "put on hold" if I was to go back into the military, and then it resumed when I get back out of the military. So you are all saying that I will still get my monthly paychecks from the VA? How sweet is that!!

just like they have been saying, you have to pay back what they have overpaid you. so if you are in the NG and collect disability you only pay back the portion you were on duty. that usually is your drill weekends and annual training and any other schools you go to or any other time in a duty status. You do not lose your disablitiy payment ever. If you go on a deployment the best thing to do is go to the VA and have them stop your payment and when you return go back in and have it started again. the problem is that it takes a while to stop and start your payments and you may incur a debt
