Ive heard everything from 4 days to about 3 weeks. The latter is due to administrative foul ups but you never know whats gonna happen. My contract is showing about a 9 day difference between ship date and training date. I'm not looking forward to those days.

I got to Ft Benning and 30 AG (reception) on 4 Aug 09. I moved down range on 13 Aug 09. 9 days of ****... reception is soo bad because of the hurry up and wait while DS's are yelling at you to be quiet and move faster. Then you wait nearly 1 1/2 hours (at the end of the line) to eat chow. Oh, get used to sitting on the ground a whole lot or standing in line at parade rest for ever. Sounds easy, but it just plain sucks... Hopefully you'll be one of those fortunate souls that had everything planned very well by your recruiter and RSP NCO's. Some soldiers showed up with jacked-up paper work and they didn't go down range till a week after arriving with me. all depends on how things go.
Best things I can give you advice on is keep your voice down... they'll tell you to be quiet but no one will keep their mouth shut. They won't smoke you cause they can't ship a soldier from reception to BCT if they are injured. The worst thing we got were some push-ups, flutter kicks, and squats. And those only lasted for about 1-2 minutes... (take it all in cause you won't do near enough pt in BCT if your not 11b)
Don't worry

When I was there, I was in reception for 7 days and then at the barracks with my OSUT Co for 3 days before the official first day of BCT.

Most are done in a week. But some are unfortunate enough to suffer there longer.

The 43rd Reception Batallion takes 4 days to get you processed. Thats if you don't have any medical or administrative problems. It usually doesnt take much longer than that.
Here's my philosophy on your 10 days. It could be that your training company just graduated a cycle right before or as you got to the 43rd. What may happen in that case is that you get moved to a hold-under company for a few days before your cadre shows up, you may spend a few days doing nothing at the 43rd, or you may be the first privates to show up at your company for fill week.
Fill week is the week before BCT/AIT where you and your battle buddies fill into the company.
Don't worry, you will train. The 43rd isnt bad.

30th AG (Ft Benning) 171 Charley Bravo Roster Number 02!
Eco Co 3/47 Ft Benning RN# 302
AIT, Ft. Lee, VA... Wish we would have used them. Would have made formation a whole lot easier! If I were PG, it would have happened too.

I was so relieved the day I left the 43d. I think they should give a suicide prevention class at the USO in the St Louis Airport before recruits leave. When we went back to DX our ACU's we all carried dour ACE cards. We got in trouble by the DS's there for telling privates horror stories about BCT. Our DS even told them to quit before they leave reception. One poor kid started crying when he said that.

hahahahaha we told them about convoy live fire, but may or may not have amended it to "chopper live fire." we also may or may not have told them that a soldier had fallen out of the blackhawk during the exercise, and was hanging by his swiss seat while they continued to fly down the range, and the DS pulled the guy up by himself and smoked him in the helicopter.
allegedly.

has anybody else heard about the DS at 30th that "killed an iraqi with an E-Tool?"
we heard about that, and our DS downrange told us that when he was at 30th, years ago, he heard the same thing, except it was about a viet-cong. hahaha

my was very similar...
i was in reception for about week and half.. due to all engineer company's being full and had to wait because there were alot of hold overs and other issues.
once i was settled in my company, i was there for about a week before we started bct. so we basically cleaned up all day, and did nothing, thats when the drills didnt really care about us sitting around as long as we wernt laying in our bunks..

Oh yea, I remember after BCT began, the DS came in and caught us all sleeping (except me cause my bunk was by the front door) As he walked in, he told me to not call "at-ease" and proceed to catch EVERYONE. We got like 1 1/2 minutes of push-ups but then were told to "stand-by" and not sleep. Then he changed his mind and said, "As a matter of fact, go to sleep... this way I know you won't get into any trouble." As long as we weren't on our bunks, it was ok! With that, he walked away and let us go for 2 hours. I still couldn't sleep! Oh well... :D... memories at BCT.

That's give or take. National Guardsmen usually take priority due to the funding issue (Your state isn't paying the Army to have you sitting around doing nothing). So don't worry my friend.

I guess being older has its advantages. The only 3 things I can remember about reception is 1. The coffee I referenced in a different post, tasted good, eating lots of good breakfast and drinking a full cup of black coffee.
2. seeing several guys walking around with that incredibly depressed look on their face. One was a monster, probably around 6'8" or so, huge feet, somebody said he was going home because of flat feet. supposedly lots of guys had that.
3. The shots - two shots in each upper arm at once, bang bang. so quick you didn't have time to get nervous. Some guys bled, I didn't.

Possible, all depends on how they're organizing the companies. If you're all an OSUT MOS, then it's more likely you'll be together. Everyone that was in my company at reception who was Infantry, was also in my company when we shipped downrange.

I had a week of reception if I remember right but it really depends on when your basic training company is starting up. Word of advice you will not get any sleep that first night and possibly for the second too. Do not fall asleep and dont let the DS break you already. I had a terrible DS that told us none of us in the guard were going to make it and we should all go back home. He also asked if anyone had done JROTC and when we raised our hand he made us push because we thought we knew it all. Good luck in basic.

I can't speak for reception at FLW. I went through 30th AG at Ft. Benning. 9 days seemed to be about the average. From what I gather speaking to other people reception is miserable no matter where you go. I would rather spoon out my eyeballs then sit another 5 minutes on the cold hard floor in the classroom at 30th AG. Or standing in formation for 2 hours after dinner chow. While everyone had to pee bad that they nearly p***** themselves a couple of time. Trust me by the time you ship down range you'll be begging for a DS to be yelling in your face rather then spending another day in reception.

You'll discover this when you deploy as well. You'll be begging to get to the mob site, begging to deploy, begging to get done with your left seat/right seat, begging to go on leave, begging to demobilize, etc etc. ;)

43rd at FLW is an 'experience' to say the least, our bus didn't leave St. Louis Airport for FLW until after midnight, we arrived, got our briefing, turned in our cell phones / amnesty items, had our personal bags inspected, were sorted into bays, given our bluebooks and warrior skills books, lights out was 0345, lights on was 0430. We were 'hurry up and wait' for the next 3 days thru uniforms, haircuts, shots, eye exams, dental exams, and DEERs, the one plus was we got steak one day and got to watch movies on Sunday (don't fall asleep). 5th day we packed and loaded into busses - that's when the fun started.
