Hello, my name is well PFC Brenda Deters, aka mom, wife-i just joined the KS Nat'l Guards on Monday Nov.16. I am 34, daughters are 12 & 13, married 14 yrs. -I have never been in before and well guess you could say I am begining a new career . I currently work for the state of Ks but as we all know with the economy nobody is safe, or guarenteed a job! I have to say I have been truely blessed with a great recruiter. I am so ready for this ride to begin. I ship 1/20/10 to Ft. Jackson with AIT at Ft. Lee mos 92Y!! Any one who has any advice, any thing would be great!!

Paid military leave! State employee here, 30 days paid per year, plus more for State emergencies...:cool:

Getting paid at your current job while in the Guard. Some employers will continue to pay you while the Guard is paying you to train, deploy, etc. Hence, "double dipping".

This is also why many Guardsmen pursue careers in law enforcement, firefighting, corrections, post office, etc.

Wow. I thought it was really cool that I got 15 days military leave as a federal employee.
