I am thinking about participating in the SMP program for either the Guard or the Reserves, my question is this if I do SMP for either one and I become lets saay an infantry officer, I am definetly going to move back to my home town of El Paso I know there is no infantry in El Paso so would that prevent me from moving there? Its very important that I be able to move I definetly do not want to stay in New Mexico after graduation, no offence to New Mexicans but I miss Texas! :D

No it won't keep you from moving, but you might find yourself driving to an infantry unit. Remember that travel to your home unit is not reimbursed, so you may have to pay for a long drive and stay.

ouch Texas is a BIG state and El Paso is the only major population center far west Texas. would that be the same for the Army Reserve?

I don't know, but I would guess yes.

yeah. i drive ~5 hours to my home unit. it's the closest FA unit in the state, and i wanted to be FA, so to me it's worth it. it's just a choice you have to make. spend a few hours driving once a month, or get deployed doing a job you hate (not to mention the time spent training on said job).

Are you in ROTC? (if not join and then do SMP, because upon graduation from college you will have to join the guard in New Mexico to attend OCS)
Upon graduation of college how long until you move back to Texas?
(it will likely take a year or two to complete OCS and IOBC thus making you qualified)
Two options:
ROTC? (joing guard in Texas upon Graduation)
Join upon college graduation? (move home and join the guard)
