At what point in AIT do you have to pass the APFT at the 60th percentile?

I ask this because I went to BCT in Aug 04, got out, and just got back in this past June, but am at a significantly higher weight. I am working on losing the weight, but have horrible shin splints due to running with the excess weight and not having run since 2004.

I ship for 25B AIT on 21 January, my AIT is 25 weeks long and I ideally would like to be able to pass the APFT before I go, but my running is severely limited right now.

Any idea when I would have to pass that APFT? Any pointers on running with shin splints? I am stretching 4x per day with certain stretches one of my SSGs gave me, but they don't want me running until there is no pain left.

After Basic, you must meet Army Standards

How many tests did you have at basic?

In OSUT, I think our 4th was 50% and 5th was 60%. Then we had a 6th makeup for remaining failures. (This will vary between units)

In OSUT for me we had 3 in BCT and 2 in AIT. If you failed #3, you were not allowed to wear a beret during AIT until you passed a PT test. If you failed #5 you were not allowed to take part in graduation unless you passed one before that time came. Depending on how bad you failed #5 you either got chaptered out or held over until you passed.

From what I saw, most companies at FLW were this way.

We had one full diagnostic and three other APFTs in BCT. November '07. Even if you passed them you had to do the last one, that was the record one. It was held about a week before graduation so failures could re test. Cycle before us had to only get a 50%, but we started 60%. I thought it was just the DSs BSing us into doing better but we really did need 60's. They wouldnt advance us to AIT without getting at least a 180. It was funny, only six of us passed first test and it was five of the oldest in company and one other. Then AIT we had umm, hmm... just one record. If you passed, if you didnt pass they kept administering it until you did. Everyone passed before graduation so not sure what would have happend. We had hold overs from previous cycle though that were there just for PT and until passing APFT. I believe our AIT APFT was a couple weeks before graduation, but AIT was only eight weeks, not including two for Exodus.
