Ok, i want to join the army! i dont care if i get a bonus(If there is any, better!! im only aiming at the quick ship Bonus) and all that bias i just want to wear my uniform to work every day, i want to join the national guard and or army reserve, i got a 31 in my ASVAB, and im moving to Orlando, i want to work as 44b general support metal worker, My question is why is there bonuses for some people and for some others like a lot that i've seen here including me there are any, is it cause we're uglier? Most of us are willing to work and people who join JUST FOR THE MONEY:cool: get the bonuses? i dont care if i get any... But why is the offer in de ads, and cant even get it?

P.S
Does someone know about any recruiters in the Orlando area? please if you know leave me the phone # or send me a PM!

Thanks and good luck to everyone trying to join!!!

Yeah pretty much. The uglier you are...the more money has to be spent on improving your looks. Therefore kiss your bonus goodbye! :p

The fact is it depends on where you enlist and what MOS you get. Some MOSes get bonuses because they're in need of people taking them. Some get bonuses because it's part of their reenlistment contract. And the list goes on. But since you don't care if you get a bonus or not, then stay focused on getting your foot in the door and getting that MOS you want. Why aren't bonuses being handed out so easily although old ads still show it? That's because recruiting numbers being met are at an all time high. With the sudden desire to serve, and the poor economy, many are joining the Guard. Some states have it easy and can be very selective of who they let in. Others aren't and are litterally crying for people to join (have an interest in North Dakota?). Florida, I heard, is such a state where they're being very picky who can join right now and who cannot. Therefore there's no need to get people in the door by putting out a bonus as an incentive. Not to mention that the Guard is going through budget crunches and the bonus is one of the first things being held back...or taken away.

As far as Orlando, someone in this forum may know of a good recruiter out that way. If not, then what you should do is move to Florida first, then call the 800 number. The operator will take down your zip code and connect you to a recruiter that's local to you. Simple as that. But if you've been trying to join for over a year now...then you probably know how to connect to a recruiter already.

Buy an ASVAB for dummies book or similar and study your butt off in the math sections and paragraph and word comprehension sections. There's a total of 4 sections that have an effect on your GT score. Those four involve math and reading/vocabulary.

I hear a lot of good things about ASVAB For Dummies.

Also, learn how to take a test. Honestly.

I just had a guy take the ASVAB and scored in the teens...The Recruiter said that is usually an indication of not taking the test properly. Statistically speaking, you should be able to get a 25 just by coloring in "C" on every answer.

Fill in every bubble...and fill in every bubble completely.

Good tip. Also, in the math section, it gives you 4 potential answers, one of which is correct. If you have time and are unsure on some of the algebra like problems, try filling in the answer to see if it works.

I've always been a better test taker that could figure out the right answers when i didnt know them. That's the key. Generally one or two answers are so far off you can tell their wrong by looking at them, the other is more like a fill in the blank.

Go ROTC, then you won't have to take the ASVAB.

The Navy is letting people in with 35's on the ASVAB.

If you joined ROTC, I think you would seriously struggle in college since you made a 31 on the ASVAB.

Unless of course you enjoy reading 800-3000 pages per class. In a good semester I would read about 6000-8000 pages. Not to mention the hundreds of pages of notes, and usually at least one 15 page paper for each class.

Then when you go to graduate school, it gets even more crazy, blue book exams, and 30 page papers. And foreign laguages, if you are in the humanities. BLLAAA, I've forgotten how many times now I've retaken Hebrew.

I went to a community college before and during and it was a joke after going to private college.

Community college is a good place to start, because if you flunk out, then you haven't invested as much.

Enlisted may be the route for you!

You could go to community college for something like machining. An AA for a vocational degree would be higly recommended! AA in Machining. And would probably end up making a lot of money! More money than the Liberal Arts student and that's for real advice!

You should take a look into the ARNG rules again then. As of about a month ago, the lowest acceptable score to join the ARNG is 31, and the maximum age is 42. It has changed from ASVAB 50 and AGE 35. I'm a PV1 working on ADOS orders. (ADSW, as some of you may know it.) I work in the Recruiting and Retention field as of now.

All I can suggest you do, is call 1-800-464-8273, talk to the operator, and let them find you a recruiter. Once that is done, simply get enlisted. If you need to talk more, you may also contact me, Beau Young, pronounced Bo, at 731-549-0682.

Adrian, don't let yourself feel down about this. I've been trying for nearly three years. Some people have been trying for a decade or more. Miracles are starting to happen though. I don't want a bonus, I just want a chance to earn a blue shoulder cord and be a modern day Spartan.

I don't know of a recruiter in Orlando, but I do know one in Jacksonville and she's freaking awesome. She's been up at midnight e-mailing me before about the status of my case. And she's also very non-judgmental. Her name is SFC Aimee Stead, cell number is 904-477-3971. Or e-mail at aimee.stead@us.army.mil

Best of luck to you.

Okay, seriously?! You just put down the OP's grammar and yours is just as atrocious as his?

And I am obviously not a recruiter, but I know that here in Pennsylvania you can get in with a 31 ASVAB score again.

I'm not a recruiter, so don't take my responses as a fact...a REAL recruiter will give you the right answers, but here goes :

-I hate to break it to you, but your ASVAB score *****. It's not OK, it's not decent, it *****, you barely passed a simple exam. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the absolute minnimum score was a 29 to get in last time I checked?
-You having such a terrible(passing!) score will not prevent you from joining if you pass the physical and everythnig else by any means, BUT your choice of MOS's will be limited to the very basics. Don't ask me which, but if you want to be artillery or infantry, it's a safe bet that those will be available...but you want to be a 44b and I'm not sure of their requirements.
-By no means are the 11b/13b MOSs a "dumb" choice. Yes, I've seen a high amount of retards in those jobs (who DO join because of low ASVAB scores), but those jobs also have THE BEST NCOs and Officers...they're a leader's MOS. It's weird, the combat arms MOSs are 50% ******/50% genius, with no people of average intelligence;)

I'm not trying to be mean, it's just that if you do go through with this, no one is going to cuddle you or tell you it's alright to half-*** it. You have to give a 100% all the time, or someone else will be picking up your slack.
That ASVAB test doesn't test if you're smart or you're retarted, it's more of a test to test your BASIC reading/math/cognitive skills along with test taking skills. The only way to prepare for it is to take tests of a similar format so you can get used to the way questions are presented to you.
Take a few practice tests and you'll do quiet well.

Good Luck!
