Ahh it's good to be home...
It's a bit surreal, I'm at work today while last week I was still in BCT.
Anyway I thought I'd post a hello in here.
Now I drill until OCS. :)

What was it like at Jackson? Hard, easy, fun? Any funny stories?

Intense, sometimes hard, but nothing unmanagable.
The training can be pretty fun...it's the high pressure environment that makes it difficult.
I found that each platoon will have it a bit different. as will each company.
My platoon was allowed to use the phone three times over the whole 10 weeks while the rat bastards in fourth platoon got to use it all the time. They also got to eat icecream. My Platoon just did extra PT...My Drill Sgt's really liked PT. And no icecream for us. :p
Other companies got their cell phones on the weekends or watched movies on sundays stuff like that can differ. But the training is pretty consistant.
Reception can be a pain...Stay awake! :)

My husband graduated this weekend too but had to stay down in FJ for AIT. He thought being one weekend in the outside world was surreal too, with the freedom and all... plus people just look at you and treat you differently with the uniform. The calls had been restricted during BCT because of people getting caught at the phones, but now he's got his cell back and they haven't taken it away... Yet :)

Welcome back! How long were you at Reception?
I spent one week at the 120th reception battallion. Some lucky soldiers stayed two weeks. Really the hardest part was passing time waiting for your turn at whatever station, trying to stay awake...My platoon didn't sleep our first night there. so we were fighting hard to stay awake as it was.

What company was your husband in.
I was in Alpha.
All six companies of 2/39 graduated at once. Congrats.
Oh and let me guess 68M? A few of my friends are there now too.

Oh, you were in Alpha too? Phelps... Is Knave your last name? He's in 63B Light Wheel Mechanic and says it's worse than BCT at this point. First morning was 330, now 400. He sleeps in a 8 person room now instead of a bay of 60, still hardly any privacy. At least there's no push ups for mail this time! If you know what I mean :D It's basically the same thing all over again apparently, except that they expect you to know your stuff, so it's more strict. He's already had a PT test and another one next week. If you don't pass, no priviledges. If you do, you still have to earn your priviledges. Hasn't started his classes yet, not until the end of the week.
Congratulations on your graduation! It was a good crowd... I think we got a little loud. The heat and humidity down there are just impossible!!

LOL, pushups for mail. We never minded either...
Only slightly remember Phelps, I was in First Platoon, Go Warlords!
Tell him not to worry though, I've heard that it eases up alot after the first two weeks. I expect he'll get his cell phone back and get some on-post passes. 63B that's right. Cool deal, I think he'll have fun in the driving portions...I would.

You typically get the awards at AIT. You should be awarded the Army Service and the National Defense.

Ok, thanks. I was looking into a slim ribbon set and I have to mesh those 2 )or 3) with a couple of others I was awarded once upon a time.
Back to original question, I have read conflicting info on the GWOT (not the expeditionary). Can you advise Knave?

We were not issued any awards. Drill Sgt said that we would get them after AIT or in my case OCS.
I've heard soldiers get their cell phones at benning too.
Long story but I still don't have my cell phone back!

I went to Ft Jackson this summer and never recieved my cell phone back. My friend went to Benning and starting in white phase his company got to have their cell phones on Sunday.
Privelages in basic are more dependent on your battalion and company than on what base you are at.

For females I think you have to bring white or black sportsbras and white granny underpants...you are allowed one civillian bra for when you fit your class A's.
If you don't want to buy them at the PX bring some all white athletic socks. (I think the toes and heals can have those grey areas)
Females bring black or brown hair ties/bobby pins
For males we couldn't keep any civilian underwear, all our civilian clothes and gear was locked up.
If I were going to do it again I would bring as little as possible, ie, just one set of civilian clothes and wear my running shoes there. I think I bought everything but my soap, toothpaste/brush and deoderant at the PX.
I was happy I brought stamps and my cell phone/charger (you might not ever use it but have it just in case)
There are threads with a more detailed list.
