I know with the ongoing conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan deployment has become more frequent. My questions are:
1) How frequent are deployments now?
2) Where are people being deployed to?
3) What would your answers have been had I asked these questions before 9/11?

It varies and no one can predict for sure. But generally, every 2-3 years units are being alerted and/or deployed.

Iraq, Afghanistan, Cuba (for now), Kosovo and Egypt are the most common foreign countries you would go to.

Statistically, Guard-wide, the average time between unit mobilizations is over four years. Some types of units get tapped more than others. The goal, toward which we've been inching, is every five years. Your mileage may vary, and individual experiences are not necessarily representative of the entire 356,000-man force.
