I am an Army ROTC cadet, and I am interested in branching aviation in the Texas Army National Guard. I know that to branch aviation for active duty I have to sign an ADSO. What will my commitment be if I branch aviation in the ARNG? Will I be able to pursue a civilian occupation as well or are aviation officers purely active ARNG positions?

Sincerely,
CDT Thomas

My counterpart in Texas is MAJ Scott MacLeod. Mention my name when you contact him at (512) 782-5588, or scott.macleod@us.army.mil.

You'll have a six year drilling obligation. You will serve part-time in the ARNG, so you'll need a full-time job. You must be fully qualified for aviation (i.e., flight physical and AFAST test results).
