For a small fee, you can get dental coverage that will cover you even when not in drill. Medical only covers you while you're on active duty for training or in drilling status.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly.. you are considered to be on active duty when you are at BCT, AIT, and weekend drills? Are you completely covered medically when at all of those? For example, if you get hurt at a weekend drill, are you covered by the military or your own medical insurance?

When I leave for BCT and AIT, I will be leaving behind a full time position that included medical benefits...I just want to make sure that I will somehow be covered or know if I need to pick up my own insurance somewhere while gone.

Thank you

While you're at Basic, AIT, Active Duty for Special Work, active duty for any type of military schooling, deployed or just going through weekend drills and you get injured while on training status, YOU ARE FULLY COVERED BY THE MILITARY MEDICAL.
