was so boring until today!!! We had our first two jumps today, one out of a C-130 and one out of a C-17! I will say the C-17 was a much better aircraft to jump out of, but it was a great day! Nothing beats handing off that static line, pivoting and jumping out of that door.....Nothing! such a great feeling!!!

Yeah, if you like the whining sound of the engine. On the C-17.

The 17 gives you room, and that tail on that bird is HUGE!!

the prop driven Herc was easier on the opening shock, though. "Check can of peas". haha.

C-47 is pretty tight if you're given the opportunity at your unit to jump it

I've always been curious....

Which branch do those planes that you jump out of belong to? Which branch of service do the pilots come from?

I've always preferred jumping out of a Helo, especially a UH-1. Great view on the ride to the LZ, then just hop out... :)

So I'm guessing by the posts you got to use electronics in airborne? Hmmm

Good job Airborne!
Hard to believe I went through 25 years ago. 1984. I still remember the first jump vividly, I was the first one in my class to jump. A C141. I'll never forget that feeling.

For my 30th b-day present, my parents got me to jump out of an airplane at 13,000 feet. I think that was one of the most thrilling things I've ever done in my life. I loved it so much, I'm actually considering getting jump qualfied. I think I would fit Airborne very well. :D And kudos to those who are Airborne. I know so many that are afraid of heights like that...and the select few that challenge it and succeed.

A lot of skydivers HATE static-line jumping.
Don't know why, never asked cause I didn't wanna listen to them rant and rave for 20 minutes

My best guess would be because there's no free-fall in static-line jumping and free-falling is where you do your tricks and get your peak adrenaline rush, etc. So I can see why they wouldn't like it...but still, just the thrill of descending to the ground like that even with a chute is awesome.

Congrats Airborne! Now if you get AA you can join the cool kids club. Because you know if you don't have both you might as well not have any.

After that, earn your Army Astronaut badge, nothing like jumping out of a space shuttle? I heard though that re-entry into the atmosphere hurts a bit! :D

I was lucky and my 1st sgt offered me airborne school when i was in basic and ait because I had high PT! It wasnt in the plan for me thats for sure. I was pretty much voluntold I was going because "this is an opportunity of life time private". So I found out I was shipping the day of my graduation said hello to mom and dad for about 10 minutes and I was off to bennning. Thats how I got it. Now I want air assault! come on kansas guard give me the hookup!!! :D like i said it was the most amazing experience i have ever had.

That is what I figured. There are too many that say that the best way to get Airborne is to have it in one's contract. However, that is not an option for states that don't have an airborne unit. What you have described, is the best way for the 30-some states and territories that don't have airborne units.

so even if you dont have a combat job, and you have really good pt scores they might offer airborne school? and start ait after airborne?

not sure on that one! I am an MP and I had osut training so I went straight after! but everyone says I am lucky because its not often that soldiers in the kansas guard get that opportunity. But you never know? anything is possible. I am trying to get air assault now and I talked to my 1st sgt and commander but they said the state doesnt have funding for that right now or something.... :( So I am thinking active duty here I come! :D

101st rappels out opf helicopters. They also have a lie above their patch. I personnaly prefer jumping out of rotary wing aircraft.

they jump out of them as in it lands or in a hover...not with a chute

A retired "leg" officer and a retired Airborne officer were boasting to each other about their old army days.

"Why, my outfit was so well drilled . . ," declared the ex-leg Captain , " . . . that when they presented arms all you could hear was slap, slap, click."

"Very good," conceded the retired Airborne Major, . . . but when my company presented arms all you'd just hear slap, slap, jingle."

"What was the jingle?" asked the Captain. "Oh, . . " replied the Major offhandedly, " . . . just our medals."
