Good morning all,

I am prior service Navy (E-5) and have only been out of the military for 8 months, 30 years old in good physical health, have a current Secret Clearance, have a total of 88 college credits from two different schools and will be enrolling at Old Dominion University in Virginia in the spring to finish my degree. I am highly motivated to become an Officer in the Army National Guard. Since I am prior service Navy, would I have to attend Basic as part of the requirements for enlisting with the OCS option and after my enlistment is complete what would my initial duties consist of. Would I start any necessary training that is required to attend OCS and perform duties in an officer capcity or would my training consist of drilling with a unit here in Virginia before I attended OCS?

I first recommend that you speak with MAJ Joel Eberly in ODU's Army ROTC department. You might be just young enough to complete ROTC, and if you're squared away, we might be able to grant you an ROTC scholarship (I still have funding left). Call him IMMEDIATELY, even if after hours (leave a message). (757) 683-3663. http://www.odu.edu/ao/arotc/

If ROTC won't work for whatever reason, then contact me about OCS.

Thank you for the information Sir. Due to my age I didn't consider ROTC as an option.

ROTC will commission you at age 32.5 or younger. They can commission you older with a waiver, and they usually only entertain waivers for prior service personnel such as yourself. Call MAJ Eberly, and he'll square you away. Mention my name so I get karmic credit.
