I work offshore diving in the civilian world, and yes, going to Army dive school would prepare you for an entry-level position in commercial diving.
There are some things to think about, though:
Entry-level in commercial diving means tending, a couple of years on deck working like a serf before you start diving.
Military diving is very competitive. You must be in tremendous shape to make it. And then there's classroom stuff.
Active-duty diving, if you make it, would then obligate you for a few years, before you got out and went to commercial diving.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me, james.mert.proctor@us.army.mil

There was a Navy Diver that came onto the ARNG State OCS program. He was in awesome shape. Knocked out over a hundred push-ups easily.

(I hate to start stories like this, but here goes anyway)
A guy I know who was with the 82nd, went to dive school and said it was the hardest one he has taken and only 5 out of the original 100 finished the school with him.
Is it really that hard?

Yeah, it's pretty tough. I just got done, and it was a smoker. It's broken up into two Phases, I and II. Phase I is like pre-Ranger, intended to wash people out. Phase II is tough, but you get all the survivors from Phase I, so if you wash out there it's usually some disciplinary problem.
