We keep hearing about how the Guard is overstrength. But we also keep hearing how the Guard needs officers.

Has anyone heard if the medical waiver cancellation policy affects the 09S MOS?

My recruiter just told me that if I go in as 09S they will process my medical waiver, so you might want to check with yours to see if that is the case.

I want in bad, but I want to do ROTC so that I can get my Master's paid for and have the option of going active afterwards. I know that if I do 09S I'll have a commitment to the National Guard to honor first.

I am not sure about the medical waivers but the issue about PS not being MOSQ'd was not an issue for me. My OSM told me that the Guard is only at about 50% officer staffing. Either way the best people to speak with are your recruiter and OSM.

I would definately like to hear more about this. I have several 09S candidates on hold because of the medical waiver thing. Time to call up the OSM!

I talked to an OSM yesterday, and he said that while no specific guidance has been issued, it seems that for every rule there is a waiver, to include the "no waiver rule"....and to stand by for further information.

So I guess I need to find out about the no-waiver-waiver?

Here's what I was told. Technically, if you're going 09S, you're enlisting. Because you're enlisting, you must meet ALL enlistment criteria. So the no medical waivers will apply. I guess because there is the chance that you might not get selected for OCS, or make it all the way through, you would then revert back to one of your 3 back-up MOS's. It might be just my state though.... we are overstrength for enlisted, but need officers badly.

Seems as though my recruiter was on the ball with this one.

Ok, here is my take.

As many of you know, I have had a medical waiver thing in limbo for ******* forever. I got off the horn on Friday with my recruiter and I have an appointment for a consult on Thursday 30 Apr.

Now, my recruiter told me the only way I am getting this done is because I am going 09S. Had I been just enlisting, I would have been in the "hold until further notice" boat like some other poor souls on here are currently at.

Good news for Texas applicants!

okay, so a strategy lesson for guys who are having trouble getting in. Get your 60 hours of college, score high enough on ASVAB, enlist as OC, if you happen to wash out of OCS training,(which is fairly common, 18 month extremely demanding course, many distractions), you land in one of your three desired MOSs. Only catch is the Guard will choose MOS, so be careful what you pick. Done deal.

lol. I love how there always ways to beat the system, like going in enlisted to get bonus money and student loan repayment and waiting until you don't have to repay the money back as was suggested to me. Doesn't seem as though purposely washing out of OCS to go enlisted is a great idea though.
