Hi! I'm new to the forum, and don't have a lot of time at the moment to see if anyone else asked this question...
I joined in October, got a 92 on the Asvab (126 GT) and am going to be trained as a medic soon. I have been told they need pilots so I want to look into Warrant Officer Candidate School as soon as I get out of AIT. My question is, do they send you off somewhere to get trained for becoming an officer the way they do AIT or are there other options, as far splitting up the training in chunks, such as weekends, taking classes etc?

I'm a mom, and am trying to decide between sticking with medic so I don't have to go away again for more training, or if it's feasible to get the WOC training out of the way a different way. Either way, I am excited about the opportunity will probably go ahead and get trained however it takes, just want to know my options. Thank you for your help.

There is a traditional program for OCS that works on drill/AT format, but you need 60-90 college hours to do that.

As far as going WO for a flight slot... we send our WOCs to Federal WOCS at Ft Rucker, followed immediately by flight training. You would be at Rucker for 20-24mos on avg. You will be locked down during the 6-8wk WOCS process, and again for 3wks during SERE, but other then that you'll live either on or off (with full BAH) base in an apartment with your family.

Once you get back to your unit, you would be required to come in a couple times a month in addition to drill to stay current on the aircraft. It's a very serious time commitment.

Being a mom in no way precludes you from doing any of this, but you're going to need one heck of a family care plan. That means a daddy or grandma or something that's going to be able to take a whole lot of load off your shoulders for a long time. I don't see it being doable as a single parent, regardless of gender of course.

Thanks! They live with their dad right now while I am going to basic and AIT and he wants them to live with him for 4 years or so. It is a really tough decision because I know they would benefit from living with both parents for some part of their life, but I almost feel like I have to choose between becoming a pilot and having my girls live with me. I hope the gods of wisdom give me some kind of incite into my personal dilemma. Either way, thank you for the info!
