Just found out that I passed the over forty physical with flying colors. I was almost too fit. My resting HR was so low that I had to do push ups and flutter kicks to elevate my heart rate.
Looks like the next step is a board in about three weeks that is headed up by the state's active duty adviser and if that goes well I raise my right hand that same day.
Looks like I will be turning in my crossed rifles and joining the Brigade Support Battalion so should be an interesting change.

It has been a series of ups and downs, but everything appears to be on track. I guess I will believe it when I hear welcome to the Colorado National Guard.

Way to go on +40 bro... I'm 34 and trying my best. Funny, my resting HR at MEPS was 50 and they asked why it was so low. I'm 6'1" and 211. I've got about 20+ pounds too much on me, but I'm the most athletic I've ever been in my life! Good luck the the board.

That's what I have heard, but am taking nothing for granted. Especially with the daily changes that are happening on the enlisted side.

I can't tell you what will be asked, no one can. I guess it depends on the mood of the SAA. I wanted to prepare, but really couldn't. How can you prepare for someone that can ask you anything?
I can tell you what I was asked. The introduction was typical. I explained who I was, what I did, and my background which was prior Navy.
They asked why I wanted to do what I was applying for. But what they really hammered on was family. Did my family support my decision. Did I know I could be deployed out of rotation based on the needs of the Army. Had I discussed this with my wife. A lot of family questions.......what did my kids think of this, and so on.
But the rapport was very casual and friendly. There was no tension at all. I have nothing but good to say about the board I had.
Your experience may be similar or vastly different. But you are right though; don't take it for granted. Just be yourself. :)

It does really depend on the SRAAG. I heard the last guy here had you sing the Army song and things like that. I heard the gist of it was describe your leadership style, why did you get out and why do you want back in and how does what you have been doing translate into the guard.
I would expect to have to answer the family question especially since the role of the National Guard has changed dramatically since when I left active duty.

Seconded. And a good proportion of the youngsters couldn't pass the over 40 physical, with the additional tests. You're in good shape.
The Fed Rec Board will be fine. Be honest and sincere about your goals and motivations (unless, obviously, you're an *********). They aren't looking to trip you up, but might want to see how you behave under pressure.
Congrats again...

Doing a couple of Ironman races goes a long way to smoking the over 40 physical.
