I am a 36yo former Armor officer and am seriously considering returning to the Army as a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard. I am currently in the process of getting back in shape after a little over 5 years since my ETS date. What is the best route for me to pursue as I work towards my goal of putting the uniform back on? Should I get closer to the Ht/Wt/PT standards before I go any further? I imagine the state has an officer strength manager or do I just talk to the local Guard recruiters? I live with in an hour of the 155th Brigade HQ and about a half hour from the 1-98 CAV HQ. What are the odds I can get on with those units (especially since they are in the middle of deployment prep down at Camp Shelby)? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,

You'll need to meet weight/tape to get in, but won't face an APFT immediately. As long as you can meet weight, and you're within sight of a solid APFT pass, then I'd start the process. Contact your State OSM. If you're looking to deploy in the short-term, then definitely mention that on the first phone call.

Thanks for the advice, MAJ Ritchie.
I am assuming that the body fat % must be 24% or less. Is that correct? I got that figure from DA Form 5500 and the associated regs. Or is there a different standard for those coming back to the Army after a break in service?

You must be around Laurel. I have the LT and CPT vacancy list for Mississippi. It was current as of the 5th. If you want it PM me your email address.
