Hi,
From what I've been reading a "critical MOS" is eligible for College First option while a "critical unit" is not.
What constitutes a critical MOS and a critical unit?
I will be going 11B here in Missouri, with the infantry unit in Booneville.
It would wreck my plans if I were not able to sign up for college first... do want want to go 5.5 years in school, get deployed, and never end up graduating or something stupid like that.
I've tried googling critical units in Missouri but can't find any helpful links. Can someone in the know explain for me? Thanks!

Critical MOS is an MOS that is understrength in your state. There's currently a crapton of infantry in the guard though, for instance in Oklahoma, the infantry unit I was going to join was 32 overfilled on 11B, so I went 11C. Ask your recruiter which MOS are critical in your state.
Also, be advised, I read the fine print on the college first, and it covers all CURRENT federal deployments; meaning Iraq and A-stan etc. any new deployments, such as if we go to war with Iran or something, are not covered under this program.

From my experience, I can tell you that a Critical Unit bonus is when you get your bonus amount in ONE LUMP sum after BCT/AIT. However, you cannot choose College First. It is one or the other.
I had the choice to choose critical MOS for College First or Critical UIC for the one lump sum bonus.
Hope it helps. But before making a choice I would first clarify it with a recruiter.

In Missouri 11B is still critical MOS. Anyone have a list of critical units for Missouri? That would be very helpful, thanks. Well guess I can just be patient and find out at MEPS tomorrow haha.
Got a little worried reading up on these posts. All I can do is wait I suppose!

ROTC is the only way to make sure you don't deploy.
Thinking about it. Even though I want to finish college quickly, if my unit deployed, could you really leave your brothers in arms to go at it alone?

Well college first is also another way to make sure you don't deploy... unless you decided to.
And for me finishing my education comes before anything. It's just smart planning for the future.
