So, I just finished my first weekend of RSP, and while I knew it would be informative, it was much much more so than I had ever thought. I learned so, much, and after just the one weekend, feel so much better about going to BCT. I did my 1:1:1 much better than I thought I would, even beat out some of the guys, but still need work. I do not remember the last time I was as sore as I am today.
I am so glad that the National Guard has this program, we were even told that the Active Army may start sending people through it. In a way this will be my only regular RSP before I ship (the next one is some sort of a competition about 5 hours south, with a couple of other RSP sites), and I am gone on MAY 12. Any reservations that I had before about joining, are gone. I am so glad that I made this decision.

Well done!
It seems your experience is the intent of these drills.

Well, I'm glad we do have it. I'm so much more prepared. I'm actively learning all the information that was given to me. Just like in the real world, the more I learn and become comfortable with the information (ranks, soldiers creed, general orders etc...) the easier it is to concentrate on everything else I need to learn. I'm not at basic till August, and I have time to learn all this stuff.

frequentobserver: where is your RSP located? just curious...
I have to speak highly of the RSP I'm assigned to (Camp Fretterd - Maryland ARNG). I was only there ONE DAY and got soooo much information: APFT, military rank, military time, Drill and Ceremony, Army Song, Army Values, Soldier's Creed, etc. (Granted, some things I knew, even with no prior service; some things I had no idea.)
They definitely are in the business of preparing us for BCT/AIT, mentally and physically. I've heard that there are RSPs out there that AREN'T set up like this, and if so, they are really doing a disservice to new Enlistees...

I just had my first this past weekend as well. I was "Red Phase" which meant lots of power point presentations and lots of memorization. We also did a lot of D&C (our Sgt "forgot" the electronic opener for the gate, so we marched the long way around from the chow hall LOL).
I'm really looking forward to starting "White Phase" next month. We'll get our 1:1:1 tests as well as a lot of other PT. My recruiter mentioned that we'll get a class on land nav and another on weapons handling......yeehaw! I get to do 4 months of "White Phase" before I move on to "Blue Phase" just prior to shipping for BCT. I think it'll rock.
