Do people on AGR orders still have to drill one weekend a month? I am considering a 79T AGR job. I am currently an 11C. If I accept the 79T AGR job, I will have to reclass to 79T. If I have to drill on weekends while on AGR, what would I drill as considering I would no longer be an 11C?

If you are the Recruiting and Retention NCO, you will drill as the RRNCO. They will have you down as 11C but your unit will probably want you to do your job during drill.

This is up to your unit, though.

Once you actually become AGR you no longer belong to your unit. You are assigned to your States Recruiting headquarters. Then, you will most likely be assigned a unit in your recruiting area that you are supposed to visit on drill weekend to try to work on retention issues and also to try to stir up some leads.

If you are AGR and not a recruiter then yes...you will drill with the unit you are assigned to.

You have to first look on your states vacancy list... for us

http://vko.va.ngb.army.mil/virginiaguard/employment/agr/index.html

Then you select which position...the directions will be at the bottom of the posting.

It's not too soon to apply, but most of the spots that I have seen (in my home state) are for E-5/E-6 paygrades. Some allow waivers for E-4 applicants, but I'm not sure how feasible it is to land a spot with a waiver when your application is competing with so many others.

CHD,

For E4s, it's not really a waiver. It's just a different process. For NCO's, they get a NCOER every so often. Basically an evaluation on how you are doing. Since Specialists do not get them, they need a Letter of Recommendation from the CO.

Just checked the individual job announcements... you're absolutely right in the general sense and I made a comment based on one specific one... in cases in which E-4 is two grades below the listed grade, a "waiver" is required according to the listing. So, it's not the fact that an E-4 is applying (like I said and you corrected), but that they are two spots removed from the recommended E-6 pay grade. Thanks for clearing that up.

Fulltime jobs are very competitive. You also need to investigate how that affects your bonus since that subject comes up a lot with this.

Maybe I am still confused on what you're saying (i've had a couple rough nights...back from iraq...you catch my drift ;) ) and I'll see if this makes sense to you.

For a supply sergeant job, the grade is E6. For most companies, an E4 can apply but will need that letter. But, if accepted, it's an automatic promotion to E5 (If requirements are met). I havent seen an E4 apply to a position that says an E4 cannot apply. Maybe i'll do it to see the outcome.

Are we on the same track? lol.

I'm looking at an announcement for an E-5 position...

The announcement states: "Eligible enlisted personnel in grades E3 through E5 will be considered under this tour announcement. Personnel in the grade of E3 must request a waiver for being two grades below required grade of the AGR position, and if selected will not be placed on tour without approval from The Adjunct General."

I think so... I used the word "waiver" and you used the word "letter" - I don't know if we're both right or wrong or whatever.

Well, I can see an E3 needing a waiver being that it's a full time job and an E3 doesnt have too much experience in the military. E4 is pushing it.

Here is what I got... gotta go to bottom of 2nd page.

This one is for E4

Never seen an E3 but I know 2 E3s that were AGR. Gotta look into it.

I came into an E6 AGR position as an E4. My E5 was contingent upon me getting MOSQ'd which I just did. If you are an e-4 and take an e-5 or e-6 agr position of which you already hold the MOS..... say the job is a 92A and you are 92A then you will get your e5 as soon as you come on board with AGR.

Clearly you need to talk your state into 4day work weeks. That monday off after drill is a life saver. Plus four days a week is real nice the rest of the month.

I am with you... I absolutely hate it... this week ***** because we had drill this past weekend. I got lucky though... no one in the office today so I am working on my personal laptop leveling up my druid. It's nice to be caught up and not have to make myself look busy for other peoples benefit!
