Hello everyone! My name is Josh and I'm a 26 year old unmarried father from California. I have always felt in my heart that I was meant to serve but for whatever reason I never taken the steps to do so until reciently. Making this decision has been very tough for me beacsue I do have a 2 1/2 year old son that is my world, and I also will be leaving a very good job. However I know I will never be truly happy until I am doing what I have always wanted to do professionally. Plus I have no doubt that the time away from my son will no doubt be tough, but I feel will be a good thing for us in the long run! My girlfriend/son's mother is probably the one person that truly supports my decision to serve 110%, which makes things a ton easier because this would all be impossible without her support.

When I started this whole process in November I knew I had a lot of work to do. At the time I was 5'9" 260 lbs, had no high school diploma, and had no clue how I would score on my ASVAB. As of today I have completed my HS diploma, I currently weigh about 220 lbs which is still heavier than they want but my body fat is at 20% so Im ok there! And I scored a 78 on my ASVAB. All I am waiting for now is my Family plan waiver since my girlfriend and I have Joint physical/legal custody, and a medical waiver for a minor surgury I had on my shoulder 5 years ago. Once I get those two waivers back I will be off to MEPS and hopefully sent to BCT ASAP! Oh yeah my MOS is 31B, so according to my recuiter I will probaby be going to FTLW for OSUT.

Welcome Josh! Would you happen to know which unit you would be assigned to? I'm in NorCal as well.

I haven't been assigned tp one yet..... My recuiter actually has been dropping the ball. I'm waiting on a medical waiver and it being held up because he hasn't gotten a signature from a CO yet. According to my recuiter he thinks all be with the MP unit in Pittsburg though. Not sure yet though?????

Thanx for deciding to serve and welcome to the forum. I hope your waivers come in soon, not to discourage, but mine took 4 months, but then my issues were a bit more ...umm..difficult than the ones you mentioned.

Either way, WELCOME to the family!
