how are the drill sgts at ft. benning? i have heard mixed reactions. i have heard they are very mean, loud, swearing, etc.. and also i have heard the army is different now and drill sgts are nicer and are not allowed to swear. i honestly would prefer a harder ds then a nicer, easier one.

Not allowed to swear? You'll hear language that you never knew existed!

Go watch Gunny Ermie's triade on Full Metal Jacket... that's just about right. :)

The DS in reception could really careless because they are either on their way out of the army or getting ready to go back over seas.Down range I never had a problem as long as you do what your told and dont "make friends" with the DS youll be fine.As for curseing i herd stuff that I am still not sure what it means.

keep your mouth shut and do what you are told. Do what ever it takes to not draw attention to your self. It will happen but try to aviod it. I went through OSUT in 1992 so things have changed.

lol. You will love you DS's. Most of them were the best people I felt I've met in the Army. They are funny as **** too. lol well when you get to 30th you may run into a guy named DS Peterson. I remember when he asked us if it offends anyone if he swears. Didn't get a response and said good I don't want to hear anyone *****ing about anyone cussing. I don't have a problem with it. It was funny as ****.

Dude DS peterson is the s***.He made being there easier on all of us because he wasnt a total p**** unless he had to be.You might also run into DS Alison who is the only DS i know who is funny as s*** and he dont really care what you do.Of course both of them are in Alpha company. If you get Charlie company i feel for you because they had it bad.

The object of basic training is to "have it bad" If you had laxed DS's that "didnt really care what you did" then youre the ones that missed out and got the short end of the stick compared to "C Company"

This is a very common theme, you want to be a ninja at BCT. Blend in, learn well, do what your told, dont be the guy in the back or the guy out front, dont talk too much or not enough.

1 of my DS's didn't know who I was for the longest time. My other one did. But the one that didn't was passing out mail. Got to my last name and called it out and said "who is that we don't have one of those" and "I was like that's me ds." He said "you must be doin something right, never seen you before" That happened week 7 lol.

until I opened my mouth about week 6 or so. Being from Texas, I let down my guard and asked the DS, "When are y'all going to hand out the mail" or something. He jumped on the y'all. "What's this y'all ****?" Where are you from?"

So then he knew my name, but he was so busy with other people he already knew their names from week one.
