I can't seem to find an answer to a question I'm sure lots of people have asked. I would like to know when my Time In Grade starts. I already have TIG as an E-2 prior service. Im enlisting as an E-2 in the guard. Does it resume/start the day I enlist like some people say or the day I start WTC like some others say, or neither of those answers. Thanks in advance.

TIG starts the effective day that you are appointed on orders to that grade. Look at your orders for the E-Date. You may have orders that are themselves dated one date, but list your effective date of grade as another date (whether in the future or past).

In your particular case, your effective date of grade will be the date of enlistment.

That's why you hardly see Privates in ARNG units, because by the time they complete AIT and join their units they've spent one or two years in service.

Thank you sir, does that mean that my previous time in grade does not count? That would kind of **** since I was one month away from getting E-3 back. If so, oh well thats the price you pay for screwing up.

Dont worry, you'll pick it up pretty quick in the guard.

Thanks, but please tell me my TIME IN SERVICE counts at least. That would be a big help.

Your time in service is adjusted so that you do get credit for it. If you look at your PEBD (pay entry base date) then it should reflect to add the time you had previously onto what you have now.

look at your years of service and paydate on your LES and you will know your TIS.

I believe when you were at MEPS you shouldve had a grade determination, try lookin through your papers to see. I would think your time as an E2 in the other branch should count, but even if it doesnt you should make your PFC pretty quick ;) good luck
