Well, step 1 accomplished. I took the asvab test today. My recruiter is making me wait 3-5 days for the results as well as the MOS list that i'll be able to choose from. Some parts were tough, after all, i've been out of school for 11 yrs.
Other parts weren't bad at all. I just can't wait to see if i've passed! The test was the old fashioned paper and pencil test, NOT the computer test as i've read MANY times about. I found it easy though to go back & double check yourself on.Still debating when to go to MEPS though. Part of me feels I should join after the holidays, I have 2 small girls I should be home with. Very confused right now.

I originally went thru MEPS in July, and had planned on going to BCT in late September. Duckwalk DQ'ed me. I just went thru 08/22/06 and passed everything, then immediately enlisted. I ship out 01/17/2007. We ended up picking a much later date because i knew I wouldn't be ready to ship out in 4 weeks, and I wanted to be home for the holidays (or, at least, I didn't want to have to pay big bucks to come back home during the Exodus).
If you go to MEPS soon here, you still don't have to ship out for (recruiter help? anyone? wrong info?) up to a year after you sign on the dotted line.
Since you already did the ASVAB, there's really nothing to work on or study or prepare for at MEPS. ( I can't remember if you were worried about a weight issue and being taped). I would recommend going to MEPS, get it over with, and start your drills and RSP right away. You can still choose to do basic after the holidays.
Remember, you never know what kind of little problems might surface at MEPS- waivers, temp disqualifications, etc. If you get in first time, GREAT! If you don't, you want to allow for enough time to do all the paperwork/legwork. I couldn't do the duck walk, so I had to go back 5 weeks later. They wouldn't let me just practice for a little while or try to do it later that day. Nope. That threw a big monkey wrench in my plans.
Best of luck and keep us posted~ I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the ASVAB!:)

Anyone know of any online sites or books that can be found at perferably local library (i'm cheap....or wait...frugle hehee) as an extra study guide for ASVAB? Of course i'll shell out the $$ if I have to, but prefer not to. Its been so many years since school. I wasnt worried about it, but I guess I didnt have enough to worry about today because now i'm starting to worry! Pretty certain I have enough intelligence to pass (i've personally known many military personel and if some of THEM could, I shouldnt have to worry lol) but of course I want to do better then that. Thanks.....and hey...try to have a great day!
The past is history, the future is mystery, today is a gift as its the present. K I dont remember the exact quote but close. lol

WIBecky74- Noooowwww you have him started. Geez, Echo will be linking us left and right! Don't encourage him!!!!:p
Best site I found for any used books is alibris.com. I love them!!! Also, there's always eBay...eBay... eBay... ya know, the first step is to admit I have a problem...
The online sites are really good. I like them because you get used to the funny way the ASVAB does math equations. I know the first online practice exam, I got most of the math wrong, because I couldn't figure out what 2^3 ((7 X 4)^2) meant. I mean, it's not laid out like it is in a math book, it looks really goofy.
If ya ever end up hopping across the border to Gopherland, we could do some serious ASVAB practicing!

Too cute!
BTW, something funny about nicknames... back when I was in daycare, I made the all-too-common mistake of cutting my own hair. For the next 6 years, my mom made me wear a "pixie" cut- which was actually kinda butch. Then, G.I. Joe toys became popular. My nickname at the babysitter's was "G.I. Jan" and unfortunately, it stuck. I hated it. Now, go figure... I actually am just that!

I don't know I was thinking maybe Link for all the links you provide. Or something along that line. Seriously you have provided some invaluable information and I think I speak for everyone when I say it is greatly apprieciated. I know I don't have time to do all the research you do. I think it is great.
