I went to meps December 2008 and things went downhill when I told them about me getting a psych evaluation July 2008 and because of some self-mutilation I did when I was in middle school. My psych evaluation was just to see if I was depressed or not which I wasn't. The doctor didn't prescribe any medication nor was I told to see a counselor. I got dq'd for it because I didnt have any paperworks and they wanted to have a consult with a doctor.
I went to the consult last week and went back to meps where the doctor said I have to get a medical waiver because my 111113.
How long do these waiver's take to get approved? What are my chances that I might still get in?
Im really hoping thats things get better and that I get in. I've been talking about joining the Guard since I was in high school.

My two, that were approved, took less than two weeks.

Based on the information you've already given, I'm wondering why they gave you a 3 and not a 2 if it was found to be positive for history of self-mutilation but without current limitations.
Here's how they grade it:
S: Psychiatric - (last number in the profile series) - Type severity, and duration of the psychiatric symptoms or disorder existing at the time the profile is determined. Amount of external precipitating stress. Predisposition as determined by the basic personality makeup, intelligence, performance, and history of past psychiatric disorder impairment of functional capacity.
1- No psychiatric pathology. May have history of a transient personality disorder.
2- May have history of recovery from an acute psychotic reaction due to external or toxic causes unrelated to alcohol or drug addiction.
3- Satisfactory remission from an acute psychotic or neurotic episode that permits utilization under specific conditions (assignment when outpatient psychiatric treatment is available or certain duties can be avoided).
4- Does not meet standards of "3" above.

What MOS were you trying for?
I want to go to the medical field. I am undecided whether to go into 68G or 68S.

Both patient admin and prev med require a 1 in the psych component (S).
What has your recruiter said about possible MOS's? Once you get your PULHES determined, your MOS options narrow if you get 2's, especially 3's.

I am also wondering why they gave me a 3. The doctors at meps just stuck with their thought that my self-mutilation from middle school is still affecting me today.
The psychiatrist that I went for a consult with said that I had an immature personality based on the 20 minute meeting I had with him.
I am scared that I will not get in because of that 3 and that my waiver might not get approved. My PULHES is 111113 and my asvab score is 86.
I have read that they let people slide through nowadays with waivers.
Im crossing my fingers that that is true. I am really looking forward in joining.

From what I've seen in my state, and to be perfectly honest, 3's are difficult to overcome unless it is in hearing. The good news is that you have a great ASVAB score. Since recruiting numbers have been good, and the Guard is overstrength, acquiring waivers is less likely. Keep in good contact with your recruiter and ask lots of questions. Hope for the best, but expect the worst. Have a back up plan. Are you willing to change to a critical MOS? A critical unit? What is the waiting period before you can get reevaluated or request another waiver? Are you willing to pay out of pocket to get a comprehensive psychological exam, and if so, will they accept it?
I don't know the anwers to the questions I posed above, but if joining is something that you are serious about, then exhaust every avenue. If you are still unable to join, please know that it is nothing personal, and you can feel good in knowing that you were willing to serve your country, and you tried your best.
Good Luck. Nothing good comes easy.
