Hi,
I was wondering if someone could give me some information on joining the NG. I'm sure some of these questions have been asked before but I'm going to ask them anyway. Here are the questions and some of my information.

I'm 39 years old, (I heard the enlistment age was raised, does that include the Guard?) Am I too old?

What kind of physical requirements are there to join. Weight restrictions, eyesight, etc.

How long is basic training? (I'm concerned about my full time job, and I don't want to lose it) I realize there are Federal laws in place to prevent this but companies can be creative)

Is there some kind of advanced training after basic? If so How long?

Do basic and advanced training run together. In other words if I am in basic do I go directly to advanced or do I come home and go back to work and then leave at some point for advanced training.

After that its one weekend per month and two weeks straight during the summer, each year?

I am 39 years old, have a bachelor of science degree in business and a certificate in network engineering and data communications. I am a mangager at a Pharmaceutical company and would like to get involved in giving something back to my country. Any and all information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Angelo,
I'll try to be some help. Yes the age limit was raised to 42 years old. Yes there is some Weigh issues...you can't be to much over weight. I belive it's called taping for body fat percent. After all ...we are soldiers. Bct is nine weeks for Army and national guard and they do same training. It depends how many weeks you will be away after your basic training. After my bct I then leave for (AIT) Advanced Individual training additinal nine weeks for my (mos) Military occupation specalist- (the job you do when you come home and report to your unit once a month) Iam a 15q/15p Air traffic control. It will go from my ship date which is Nov 8th, for basic training at ft jackson afterwards I report for (AIT) to ft ruckers, AL till April 5th. In that time I will be home for christmas two weeks and after I graduate bct for two weeks, then I leave and report for my (AIT). Once you come home you will report once a month and two weeks a year with your unit.
You sir need to check out a unit close to home and talk with your recruiter. See the goings on at your unit and see where you might fit in and what you would enjoy doing. I belive you could be an asset to any national guard unit.
I hope I was some help. There a few recrutiers and posters here on the boards who are very good and they can help out whole lot.
Good luck.
