What is the feeling among the armed forces on-duty about their raising the max. age for recruits to 42yrs? Will it be awkward working along side/training with someone old enough to be your parent?

As a person who is over 40 and just about finished with the process I can say yes at times it might be akward. Having said that as a person who works in a high school I look forward to working with motivated people regardless of their age. I do have the benefit of coming back as an NCO so from my persective I can teach the troops from my experience and knowledge. Especially at this time in our history. I give any young person their props for joining now especially since it is not always politically correct. Not too mention it will give me the motivation to push myself physically. I have had a few of my students join the military in the last two years and when they come back to visit it is great to see how much they have grown and matured.
So to answer your question from my POV no I have no problem serving with those half my age.

I think the armed forces would greatly benefit from enlisting those with life experiences that only age can give you. Older more experienced adults can easily take on the role of mentor to the younger recruitees.

My husband is in AIT and said that now almost half of the people up there are much older. He said that while your in there you dont really even think about it much. Noone at Fort Lenordwood even minds. People are people no matter the age and you are all there to do your job.

YourBilly, you are qualified to join the Army National Guard up to the age of 42. However there are a few other things we would have to discuss. Height and weight, medical conditions, and law violations are among a few. Let me know if you are interested.
