VA Website ***** and doesn't help much
Anyways.. GI Bill only pays you during the school year, correct? And not year round?
Also, it says they will pay BAH for your zipcode. So E5 + dependants rate.
So, I'd be getting the current rate of $1,321 plus whatever BAH is in my area?
Or, do they adjust your monthly payment so you're not getting more than what your tuition costs?
edit: Just read it'll only pay for tuition if you're still on active duty, so I guess I'll be getting the $1,321 rate. Now to figure out this BAH thing and if they pay all year

They only pay for months you are in school. That is why you have to certify your enrollment either online or over the phone every month.
As far as BAH, I'm not sure. I don't action Chap 30, the local AD Post does... but all my Chap 30 folks get the amount you quoted, not more...

The whole BAH thing is the new G.I Bill that doesn't take effect until Aug of 09. Traditional Guardsman are still on the chapter 1606 or whatever it is type benefits.
Active duty is a whole nother beast!

That's awesome...wish I had that. I did a Workstudy program through the VA to pay my rent...
I used to take courses in the summer to keep my checks rolling in.
Change majors to match the courses available....Used to be Computer Sciences, now I'm "Liberal Arts"...Now I get to spend the summer in air-conditioning, watching movies, and the checks don't stop...Then change my major again...

Ah ****, it says that new GI Bill will only pay the tuition, so it looks like I'll have to use that BAH money and my own money to pay for the rest of the school costs.
D*cks. Old method sounded like more money

Find yourself a Workstudy program.
I worked at a local Vet Center. It was minimum wage, but it was tax-free and non-reportable income...we worked a maximum of 100 hours a month...
The guy who ran the center didn't care how many Vets he had working there, as long as there was always someone at the front counter, and there was always coffee.....as for the rest of us, we got paid to sit in the conference room and do homework until our actual turn at the front counter.
Consider it your "benefit".

Well I gotta check to see if they got veteran scholorships and such at the school.
My tuition is gonna be $4,114 so that's payed for. I get $1,000 for books, so books are covered, but then the course is gonna cost $2,000 and then the course requires I purchase a laptop from the school which is another $2,000 (stupid turds wont let you use your own). And the college has apartments for rent that are fairly cheap and new, so I'll get one of those instead of ghetto dorms.
Soooo after BAH and paying my rent, I'll have about $390 leftover. So looks like i'll be stuck paying $4k of my own money cause I'll use that leftover BAH for food or w/e. ****, i was hoping I'd be getting enough extra so I wouldn't have to get a part-time job:p

25 hours a week, and not open past 5 except on nights when they have group sessions....it doesn't get any easier.
For me, it was practically across the street from the school...So any breaks in the day were considered "on the clock" if we were at the center. Sweet gig--

I worked at a local Vet Center.
I got a workstudy position at the National Cemetary, just down the street from the college I was attending. 'Twas a great job, riding a mower a couple of times a week. I recall getting a great tan.
