Ok, Here goes, I have a question about what mos's that would be available in the knoxville Tennessee area. I understand in the Army National Guard, You are ecouraged to pick a MOS that would have a unit within 50 miles of your home. I am interested in 19d which my recruiter says I may be able to get, 19k, and 11x. My recruiter has told me that 11X is not available in TN, but I have heard contrary from friends working with other recruiters. My recruiter is awesome and has worked very hard for me, but I wonder if he is misinformed or is trying to steer me in a certain direction. If anyone has any useful information regarding units with infantry or Cav scouts in the Knoxville TN area, I would appreciate your time and input and also excuse my long winded post.

I think a unit of the 278th is there somewhere in Knoxville. Think they are a armored cav unit.

Yeah the 278th is everywhere around here, It's just hard trying to figure out who's who, of the units. Iam still not giving up on infantry.

The 278th is headquartered in Knoxville. You shold have TONS of 19d slots in the area. I think I read somewhere that the Jamestown and Oneida units have a couple of infantry platoons. They had a site detailing what was available but darned if I can find it now. Since they re-organized the 278th a lot of the info online is outdated.

Thank you for that link, that was very helpful, I believe that those units may be a little too far for me. If I am to be realistic in my decision, With gas prices the way they are and the time traveling considered it may be a wiser thing to go for Cav Scout if it is available in the Knoxville Area.

Yeah, Oneida might bit of a drive from Seyour. But since you'll do that job for six years you shold really try for your first choice. I imagine there is a similar unit east of Knoxville.

Gordansville, Tn has that slot; I believe, but it is 110 miles west Knoxville.

I hope there is something near Knoxville or Sevierville.
