Hello everyone, I dont know much about the guard. So i have a few questions. Im 19 years old and im basically in a state of limbo with my life. Not really going in any direction but bumville to be honest lol. I am fit. But not exactly trained for marithons. So i was wondering how can this help me and my future wife lifes? I have absolutly no experience in anything besides computers. I am very good with computers. hardware mostly, Thats it on experience though. What kind of job can i get and train for that can keep me around home with my girlfirned and kids? and if i join how much time can expect to be away from my family? And what type of benifits will i get when i join? I know i really couldnt stand being away for months apon months on end. But im just being honest here. Is there infact something i can do? cause if so i would really love to. Thanks everyone:)

The National Guard has several benefits available to you and your family. They are offering up to a $20,000 enlistment bonus, college money, health care benefits, life insurance, and job training just to name a few. There are several jobs that the Guard offers that would be in line with your current skills in the computer field as well as new skills that you could learn. Basic training is 9 weeks long, and depending on what job you choose, the AIT length is anywhere from 8 weeks to 16 weeks. (longer for some specialized skills). The reality of deployment is definitely something that you want to consider. Chances are, that if you enlist for 6 years, there is a good likelyhood that you may be called upon for a deployment sometime during that six years. It is difficult to be away from your family for an extended period of time, (especially a new family), but if your desire to serve your country, and create a better future for you and your family is strong enough, it is certainly a good option. You should talk to a recruiter and see what the likelyhood of a deployment is in your state, and talk to your fiance about the impact of you being gone for four months of training, and possibly gone for a deployment in the future.

Thanks alot. I want to do this the family/future. Plus ive always been interested in military stuff. i UNderstand that there is a chance of being deployed. I dont think it will be that bad. I was told the chances of getting nailed was the same as some US citys or something. Anyways, Im curiouse. When i sign up and go to basic. After basic can i come home a while before going to ait? I have a dad whos sick with cancer. And isnt expected to be around for many months. And after basic i wanna come home for say a month or so. is that at all possible? thanks
