This may be a silly question, but I was wondering if you have to be exactly at your ship weight standards to enlist and go to RSP? I have been talking with my recruiter but sometimes its hard to pin down exact information from him. I am looking to be in RSP for a full year (the max time) before I ship so that I can get the awesome training that the State of Maine gives to their recruits. If anyone can give me an answer that would be great.
Also if possible any good ideas on how to get to ship weight in a fairly quick amount of time....I was told that in order to ship that I would only have to do 3 pu, 15 su, and 10 min mile...I can do that now even though I am not at weight! Anyway thanks for any info.

Ummmm......Im not exaxtly sure because im in the Guard, but I don't think you have to have to have the exact weight. If you aren't, trust me.They will get you into shape.

When I shipped from my RSP to WTC I had to be within Height/Weight (or at least make tape in my case), and I had to have passed a APFT recently.

You have to make tape at least or pass the STEPS test. You also have to pass the 1-1-1. The 1-1-1 is like 17 pushups, 20-something ****ups, and 8.5 min mile.

Females have to get 3 PU, 17 SU, and a 10:30 mile for the 1-1-1. Not too difficult by any means. And I believe your BF% has to be within the ARMS testing range in order to ship, which is like 32-34% or something like that (for females).

Standards differ with age, don't forget that. I think that people should have to pass a full APFT cause that was my only sticking point when I got to WTC. The run. I hate running.

I appreciate all of you and the answers that you have given me. I guess now I just need to get with my recruiter and get him on the ball. I am looking to ship 2010 after the one year in RSP.
Any advice on getting to weight quickly I would appreciate...nothing drastic just a program that can be stuck to and maybe has worked for you...thanks

myfooddiary.com. For 9 bucks a month you can build and monitor your food intake and calorie expenditure to achieve your goals.

Find someplace to walk that you will not give up on due to the weather getting cold. ( A mall, school, indoor track at a college etc.) Purchase some neoprene walking shorts (Wal-Mart has them for about $15) and walk. A few years back I started at a mile and was up to 5 miles within a week. I walked 5 days a week and lost 50 pounds in 3 months and have kept it off. Prior to that my weight always swayed up and down.... Once you feel comfortable walking 5 miles on a regular basis you can get a weighted vest or hand and/or ankle weights. The pounds will fall off and the muscle definition is awesome.
