I just finished 6 years of AD Air Force and while I was in we had 6 month deployments. I have heard from an Army Guard member that the Army Guard units are looking at 18 month deployments. Is this true and does it apply to all units? My wife is the one mainly concerned about deployments should I choose to join the Guard.

I haven't heard anything like this. I think that the REGs say that the longest that you can be deployed is 12 months unless that your unit gets op-held due to a current operation. Don't think that has happend just yet.

While it is true that deployments are currently set for 12 months, there may be an additional train-up period. Some of the training is at Camp Shelby, MS, some may be at Fort Irwin, CA, and some may be overseas (such as Kuwait). The total time activated may be close to 18 months, but the actual time on deployment is currently set to 12 months.

Ok, so the total length of time including training and deployment is around 18 months.

That's correct. Currently, that's the longest deployment time.

Just to make it clear, the longest deployment time by the Regs is actualy 24 calander months, you can be deployed in some form in support of OIF or OEF for up to 24 months in a 5 year period, that includes training, and time spent in theater, and demobing
